Meet Lau

Hi there, amazing learners! I'm Lau. Many years ago, I overhauled my life to change my career. The joy in a child’s eyes when they say, “Now I GET IT!” was contagious. I wanted more! And I certainly wanted my kids to be raised with much of that. So, I switched from a lucrative career in geology to become a Montessori teacher, and I have never looked back. Teaching is my calling and passion.

But I discovered the power of inspiration flows both ways. Even in a Montessori school, my oldest child had a terrible grade 1 experience. His teacher sat my 6-year-old boy in a corner and yelled at him, “I wish I weren’t your teacher.” Even as a pre-teen, he still talks about this with pain. He was diagnosed with ADHD that year. This experience taught me the huge power an educator holds over a child. Children are precious and need connection BEFORE correction.

I firmly believe that joyful learning happens when kids feel safe and are taught with empathy, love, and enthusiasm! Homeschooling would have been the best option for him, but we could not afford it at the time. He continued going to school, but I started teaching him every evening. I developed games and stories to keep him engaged in the learning that would have otherwise been tedious. We turned fractions into a talking show and decoding words into a magical hopscotch to incorporate movement and allow his fantastic brain to focus! The experience was magical, and his academic confidence was restored.

This is the magic I share today with families in my Math and Language Montessori Tutoring sessions. I also offer asynchronous courses where I isolate the academics of the Montessori method into digestible, small chunks for parents who wish to be the lead guides of their kids, without worrying about piecing together a math curriculum or spending hours planning lessons and materials. Whether you are homeschooling of seeking an extra challenge, you can now include Montessori into your learning because I’ve done all the heavy lifting for you!
